Back to Kenya
The Rift Valley of Kenya has a history of hardship. The resilient people of this land have inspired a movement around the world to help rebuild the nation and bring forth a brighter future.
Empower Dreams has partnered with Naomi’s Village in order to make a difference in the lives of the children there. Our work has spilled out into the community and we now work with Vumilia Village, a group of internally displaced people from the 2007 post-election violence.
On May 8, 2014, a team representing Empower Dreams will leave for Nairobi, Kenya for a week of ministry and meetings. We will be meeting, for the first time, with nine other ministries who share our desire to bring positive change to Kenya. We will discuss our common vision and help each other understand how we want to make a difference in the Rift Valley. Some of these organizations are Broomtree International (Argyle), GoBeHopeKenya (Rockwall), and CTC International (Austin).
Later in the week our team will meet with the leaders of Vumilia Village to begin deliberations on the construction of the community center we will build within the village. We will be discussing what to include in the center in order to best serve the needs of the people. Some ideas are that it should include a library, an internet café, a community room for large meetings, kiosks for small businesses and more.
In addition to the community center project we hope to map out a plan to remedy the continuing water issues in the village. The existing water system has been inoperative for over a year now and residents have to purchase water in the nearest town or from the delivery cart.
There are multiple ways you can support Empower Dreams during the next two months. First, pray.
- Pray for the safety of each team as they travel Africa.
- Pray that hearts and minds are open to the ideas and thoughts of others when we meet together.
- Pray that the light of God shines through each of us as we seek His will on this trip.
- Pray that this time will be blessed and our needs will be met.
The second thing you can do is donate to the community center project. We are still trying to raise money to build this center and supply it with the needs of the people of the village. Your generosity changes hearts and lives.
Third, you can stay up to date with Empower Dreams during this time. Subscribe to our newsletter on the right side of this page. Continually check our website for updates. Subscribe to our Facebook and YouTube accounts below. We will be updating as often as we can.
Thank you again for your support and thank you for believing in our dream to empower the dreams of others. We have seen such a magnificent change in the lives of these people and we look forward to seeing that change grow in the future.
