Assistance for Vumilia Village

1. What was the need?

Vumilia Village is a community of Internally Displaced People from the 2007 Kenyan post-election violence. They are in a temporary camp and need help to rebuild their community. We needed funds to conduct a survey that would allow us to meet dire needs and plan for future ways to aid these people.

2. Why was funding needed immediately?

With the data collected from this survey we were able to precisely quantify the physical, financial, education, and spiritual condition of the people. We can now maximize the impact we make on their recovery and well-being based on their specific needs.

3. How was Empower Dreams uniquely qualified to meet this need?

Empower Dreams has built a relationship with the people of Vumilia Village. We were able to provide needed supplies to the people as well as prayer and encouragement. Our team was trained and equipped to conduct the survey thoroughly and efficiently.

4. What was the outcome of your action?

Empower Dreams visited each of the 235 families in Vumilia Village. As a gesture of goodwill and to meet immediate needs, we provided a box of food staples and supplies to each family. After reviewing the survey data, the main needs that rose to our attention were the need for easier access to water, the need for more land, and the need for a community center for various events and usages.

It is our goal now to empower the people of Vumilia with the resources they need in order to become an independent and self-sustaining community. We would like to provide training, jobs, and other resources to help eliminate the village’s need for assistance from outside sources, such as the government. We hope our efforts in Vumilia Village will have a positive ripple affect on the surround communities.
